Counterpoise: A Journal for Liberty, Social Responsibility, and Dissent

The alternative press is an enormous body of books, pamphlets, magazines, zines, and audiovisual and electronic materials presenting socially responsible knowledge, points of view, and choices. Its ideas and publications are often ignored, misrepresented, or suppressed by corporate and government media, and are overlooked by schools, universities, and libraries worldwide. Counterpoise describes, critisizes, defends, and promotes these publications and products against this bias. And it's a good read.

The new Alt-X Press brings to web-readers a must-have library of avant-pop novels, collections of new media (h)activist writings, and critical ebooks. Kissing Cousins

Chiasmus Press

Chiasmus Press is a Northwest, Portland-based literary collective intent on printing the most innovative emerging authors, those who have been excluded or have not yet been co-opted by the mainstream-print-industry or well established, often academically entrenched, forms of Avant-gardisms.

Starcherone Books: The Art of Fiction

Starcherone Books's mission is to publish new works of innovative fiction and reprints of classic avant-garde works that have gone out of print.

Soft Skull Press

The Dalkey Archive Press was created in hopes of defining the contemporary period. Further, it strives to keep its books permanently protected, which is why from the start the Press has kept all of its fiction in print, regardless of sales. As with the Review of Contemporary Fiction, the Press's books represent what is happening around the world rather than more or less being confined to the United States.
