Eve's Longing- Excerpt
Eve wants to read some of her writing to Clare, but Clare is always at David's. Actually, Eve is glad to have more time alone now. She wants to get to work on a new dissertation she has in mind. It is titled The Infinite Possibilities in All Things and has as its central metaphor The Pearl String. Eve is so excited about working that she decides to disconnect the phone. She checks the kitchen and sees that there are plenty of canned goods, so she won't have to leave the apartment for quite some time. She is glad that Clare is living over at David's now. She finds their conversation very distracting when she's trying to work.
It's nice to have the whole
apartment to herself. Now she can lay her large notebooks all over
the floor, opened to specific charts and diagrams. In one corner of
the living room, she lays out the strings she has brought back with
her from Assisi. She hopes the birds won't take any for their nests. |
